Angels honor late Garrett Anderson in Game 1 after tragic pass

Los Angeles Angels pay tribute to late Garrett Anderson Friday, April 17 against the San Diego Padres.

The team wore Anderson’s commemorative patch during the game and will wear it for the remainder of the season. They also played a video tribute at Angel Stadium and held a moment of silence before the game.

Suzuki played with Anderson throughout his MLB career.

Anderson, a three-time All-Star and key player for the Angels, died Thursday, April 16, of a “medical emergency” at his home in Newport Beach, California. He is 53 years old.

The two-time Silver Slugger spent nearly his entire career with the Angels, holding team records for appearances, at-bats, hits, runs, RBI, total bases, extra hits, singles, doubles and grand slams. He was a cornerstone of the team’s run to the 2002 World Series title.

In 2016, he was inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame.

“Being a good teammate helps a lot of people,” he said at the time. “If you go out there and respect your teammates and cheer them on and give them tough love when necessary, that goes a long way. … So that’s the biggest compliment to me, people saying I’m a good teammate.”
