“What I especially learned was his attention to detail while we were filming,” she added. “Not only did he go over the scenes at home and make sure he felt good about everything and then come on set and play his character, but he came in as an executive producer and said, ‘Wow, this doesn’t feel comfortable in your seat at this moment. Let me talk to you about this. Let me feel it.’ He was very, very generous.”
Justin Hartley’s “Tracker” co-stars have often spoken about their experiences working with him, as the hit CBS series has lost several cast members. “Tracer,” which premieres in February 2024, tells the story of survivalist Colt (played by Hartley) as he travels across the country to help find missing people, track down information on criminal cases, and more. Hartley reflected on the show’s overnight success in a recent interview men’s magazine.
“What I really like about Colt and the way we’ve created him is that he doesn’t apologize for his masculinity,” Hartley said in August 2025. “I think that’s what people are looking for. You ask yourself, ‘What kind of guy do I want to hang out with?'” Specifically: “What kind of male friends do I really value in my life?”

“I think we’ve created a character who is so emotionally developed that he really wants to get to the root of why people do things,” Hartley continued. “The truth is, (executive producer) Ken Olin and I set out to make a show that was actually a throwback. We wanted to put a new spin on the procedural, which meant our characters would evolve over time.”
Hartley added: “He’s not going to be the same person every week. We hope people will like it. People end up liking it. I think there’s a big appetite for this type of show.”
Hartley also hinted How far will this show push his character.
“I just love the feeling when you watch a show like this and tune into the first season and then tune into the final season and you see the characters develop and you’re like, ‘Wait a minute, are they playing different characters?’ But if you watch it over the years, you experience those things in the characters,” he told TV Insider in September 2024. “As capable and confident as Colter is, I don’t think at all that he has a lot to learn, especially about himself and his family and all that.”
He continued: “Going forward, I think that’s going to be the way the show is going to be long-term, is that we keep developing the character and getting better at what he does. He’s a restless guy and for the audience, at least that’s the kind of show I love to watch, you love to see the character grow, and we’ve done that.”
