The Feds will need a data center to display their energy bills

The Energy Information Agency (EIA) has told two US Senators that it wants utilities to report more on their energy use, according to at Wired.

The development comes a month after Sens. Josh Hawley and Elizabeth Warren sent a letter asking the EIA to collect data at the data center. The request was an effort to push the agency to meet the industry’s increasingly energy-intensive needs.

The global survey will be mandatory, Wired reports. The agency has not set a date when it will use the new questions.

The EIA announced in March that it would conduct a survey of 196 companies in Texas, Washington state, and the Washington, DC-Northern Virginia metro area, and in April said it would launch a second survey in three different states. EIA Director Tristan Abbey expects the survey to be completed by September, when he will begin to develop a formal survey that will cover data centers across the country.
