Eric Swalwell’s employees explain why they won’t give up

“As leaders of Eric Swalwell’s staff, we are alarmed by recent reports san francisco chronicle On Saturday, April 11, staff from Swalwell’s 14th Congressional District and the “Eric Swalwell for Governor 2026” campaign signed a statement. “We stand with our former colleagues and other women who have come forward. We believe you should stand with them too.”

His staff went on to say, “The conduct detailed in these reports is abhorrent, beneath the dignity of public officials and a betrayal of the trust of all Californians.”

Despite condemning Democratic representatives, his staff explained why they may not necessarily be able to resign now.

“We also understand that the teams we lead need guidance and stability now more than ever. We are focused on supporting our colleagues during this challenging time,” they said in a joint statement. “Any decision by employees to retain their positions during the transition should not be viewed as support for Eric Swalwell. We recognize that not everyone, especially our junior employees, can immediately lose their income and benefits without significant personal risk or consequences. Our responsibility now is to them.”

Their statement concluded: “We understand better than he does that we have obligations to the people we lead and to the voters of California’s 14th Congressional District. Those of us who remain do so for the sole purpose of ensuring that as many of those obligations as possible are met.”

US Weekly Rep. Swalwell’s office has been contacted for comment.

Swalwell was charged Sexual misconduct and harassment of four women. He vehemently denies all accusations. (The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office launched an investigation into the allegations on Saturday.)

An anonymous former Swalwell staffer told CNN that the congressman pursued her romantically while working at the Castro Valley headquarters in California in 2019. She claimed Swalwell propositioned her for oral sex and later invited her out for a drink, and she “blacked out” and allegedly woke up naked in Swalwell’s hotel bed, where she allegedly felt he had initiated vaginal intercourse.

Another plaintiff, Ellie Sammarcoalleging that Swalwell sent her “highly inappropriate” text messages via Snapchat. Two other anonymous women accused the politician of sexual harassment and unwanted touching.

Swalwell is married Brittany Watts They have three children together since 2016. Saturday 11 April, Swalwell Denies any wrongdoingclaims he was targeted because he is the front-runner in California’s gubernatorial race.

“These sexual assault allegations are completely false. They are absolutely false. They did not happen. They never happened. I will fight them to the best of my ability,” Swalwell said in a statement. “They also came up on the eve of an election where I was the leading candidate for governor of California.”

He continued, “I’m not in any way suggesting to you that I’m perfect, or that I’m a saint – I’ve certainly made errors of judgment in the past, but those errors were between my wife and I. To her, I’m deeply sorry for putting her in this situation.”

Many prominent Democrats — including former House Speaker Nancy PelosiDemocratic whip Katherine Clark and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries – Called on Swalwell to withdraw from the gubernatorial primary.

“This extremely sensitive matter must be properly investigated with complete transparency and accountability,” Pelosi, 86, said in a statement Saturday. “As I have discussed with Congressman Swalwell, it has become clear that this is best done outside of the gubernatorial race.”

The California gubernatorial primary will be held on June 2.
