Snap has announced a new partnership between its AR glasses company, Specs, and chipmaker Qualcomm, as the company prepares to release its wearables later this year.
The creator of Snapchat has been teasing the release of glasses – called Spectacles, or simply Specs – for a long time and, earlier this year. he started a new company focusing mainly on business. The recently announced deal with Qualcomm shows signs of life for the project. The specifications will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR platforms, which are its systems-on-a-chip designed to handle augmented reality and virtual reality, press release.
The two companies will develop “in-device AI, advanced graphics, and advanced multi-user experiences” as part of a multi-year partnership, according to a press release.

The Specs saga has been a long one. Snap originally started making products over a decade ago. The last glasses that are viewed by consumers were released in 2019.
