high potential It was hinted that the cast would be exiting after an apparent on-screen death – but it has now been confirmed that the lead character will not be returning.
Tuesday, April 7th The ending shows Wagner (Steve Howie) was shot and Morgan (Caitlin Olson) tried to save his life. His fate remains unclear, but off-screen, the actor has been cast in upcoming seasons off campus and ransom canyonwhich implies departure.
deadline It was confirmed that the Season 2 finale marks Howie’s final episode as a series regular. Howie is not expected to return as he signed a one-year deal after joining earlier this season. However, Wagner’s story hasn’t been fully confirmed yet, and it’s possible Howie could return as a guest star at the start of season three to wrap up his story.
Howie His arc has been teased before. Speaking exclusively on the show US Weekly In September 2025, he said: “Nick coming in did ruffle some feathers. But his motivations and intentions were not to do that. He wanted to help, and we started to see that in different episodes.”
He continued, “That’s my fear and concern. When the dynamic of these characters is so strong, adding another character might cause that to disappear. I’m still trying not to do that. It’s going to evolve into something really cool. We don’t know the chemistry between Nick and Morgan. Obviously there is (something). But as he gradually gains more trust in the department, hopefully it will get better and better.”
As far as Howie is concerned, glad to have the opportunity on one of his favorite shows.
“Season one was great. It’s not what you normally do. I love the insert shots and I love their style. But I have friends in real life who are police officers and part of the Sheriff’s Department. So I talk to them and they definitely make fun of me because that’s what they do,” he told us. “I had a little bit of my own leeway as to who this guy was, and that information came from the writers, as to who his family was, how they were represented in law enforcement and now in politics. So he has something to prove to the department and to himself. So it’s going to be interesting to work on it and see where that comes from.”
When asked about the best part of playing Nick Wagner, Howie joked: “The badge. I was like, ‘Did he get a badge?’ So I’m walking around like a little boy with a new fireman’s hat. My badge is on my hip and I’m flipping up my jacket. I’m showing off in the mirror.”
Wagner’s fate Will be decided by new producerwho has yet to be announced.
