What we know so far

U.S. and Iranian forces have been searching for the missing American crew after a U.S. fighter jet was shot down.

Iran claims to have shot down two US warplanesan F-15 flew over the southwest of the country, and a second aircraft participated in the mission to rescue the F-15 crew.

The F-15 jet had a crew of two on board. One crew member has been rescued and the other pilot is still missing, BBC news partner CBS reported.

The pilot of the second downed A-10 Warthog ejected safely over the bay and was rescued, CBS reported.

Iran is offering a reward to anyone who can capture the missing crew member alive, state television reported.

According to reports, the American crew members were shot during the search and rescue operation.
