Anthropic buys biotech startup Coefficient Bio in $400M deal: Reports

Anthropic has bought stealth biotech AI startup Coefficient Bio for $400 million, according to The Information and New Eric. Sources close to the deal confirmed to TechCrunch that it had closed, though they declined to comment on the details.

The partnership comes as Anthropic continues to pursue healthcare and life sciences, following its own October announcement of Claude for Life Sciencesa tool that aims to help scientific researchers find things.

Coefficient Bio’s founders, Samuel Stanton and Nathan C. Frey, founded the startup eight months ago, having both worked on drug discovery at Genentech’s Prescient Design. Coefficient Bio was using AI to help drug discovery and other types of biological research work better.

The group, which has about 10 people, is expected to join Anthropic’s health and lifestyle group.
