Myanmar coup leader to become president


Parliament convened for the first time since the coup and was filled with his loyalists. The armed forces retained a quarter of the seats, while the USDP, the military-affiliated party, won nearly 80% of the remaining seats in an election that was heavily tilted towards them, a doomed outcome. It was more of a coronation than an election.
