Iran war deepens crisis, long queues form in Myanmar

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz sent shockwaves around the world after the United States and Israel attacked Iran in late February, sending oil prices soaring and shipping disrupted.

Nearly 90% of the oil and gas passing through the strait is destined for Asian countries, but this has all but stopped since the war began.

BBC Southeast Asia correspondent Jonathan Head reports from Myanmar, where drivers queued up outside petrol stations to refuel.

The country has been mired in civil war since May 2021, and military-backed authorities have also introduced an alternate-day policy for private cars and limited weekly fuel consumption to 35 liters.
