BBC reporter caught in travel chaos at Houston airport

Travelers across the United States are facing unusually long lines at airports, and hundreds of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers have resigned while others continue to go without pay and claim unemployment amid the partial government shutdown.

BBC journalist Christal Hayes was met with chaos when she returned home from her honeymoon, with a reported wait of more than four hours. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were on hand for crowd control.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will sign an executive order ensuring “immediate” payment of Transportation Security Administration personnel, which could provide temporary relief, but it is unclear what authority the White House could invoke to take such action. Late Thursday night, the U.S. Senate passed a bill to partially fund the TSA, but it still needs to be passed by the House of Representatives.
