Why is Israel targeting bridges in Lebanon?

On Sunday, Israeli airstrikes destroyed the Qasmiye Bridge, one of the main routes connecting the south to central Lebanon, near the coastal city of Tyre.

Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement that Israeli forces had been instructed to destroy crossing points on the Litani River, which Hezbollah uses to send reinforcements.

Many Lebanese fear that Israel may seek to cut off southern Lebanon from the rest of the country ahead of a major invasion, and that displaced families may not be able to return to some of these areas.

More than one million people have been displaced, which could lead to a serious humanitarian crisis.

BBC Middle East correspondent Hugo Bachega reported from Lebanon.
