Prediction platform Polymarket has been in partnership – which continued this week, with a new partnership involving Major League Baseball.
MLB announced on Thursday that Polymarket will be its marketing partner, a name that will allow the site to access official league information and use MLB logos on its products. The site will also receive “brand exposure” during games and through the league’s digital channels, the announcement notes.
At the same time, MLB also signed a memorandum of understanding with Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Michael Selig. The memo states that the agency, which is tasked with overseeing the prediction market, and the league will share information about baseball markets and predictions.
In the past, MLB officials have expressed concern about how the prediction markets can affect audiences. In letter to CFTC sent last year, league he recognized the need for a fair framework that can regulate the impact of the betting markets on the game. MLB officials have implemented a new Polymarket contract as a way to ensure that such fair standards are upheld.
Once prohibited from working in the US, Polymarket has been struggling since Septemberwhen the CFTC eased previous barriers that allowed the company to operate in the region. Since then, the company has announced giants of data friendship such as Google and Palantir, as well as sports cooperation and like Major League Soccer and Major League Hockeyand media companies.
