RuPaul’s Drag Race Producers World of Wonder are asking fans to help the show’s first-ever eliminated queen, Victoria “Pork Chops” Parkerin the wake of the health crisis.
“Recently, Victor (Ray Bowling), or ‘Pork Chops’ as we affectionately call him, experienced serious health issues, was hospitalized after eating a burger from a major grocery chain, and now faces an ongoing series of medical challenges,” a note shared by World of Wonder via Instagram read. “Shortly after eating the burger, he began vomiting, diarrhea and was severely dehydrated for 72 hours. We called 911 and he was immediately taken to the hospital by ambulance.”
The note, signed by the “PorkChop Care Team”, was posted by World of Wonder on Friday, March 13, with the following link: GoFundMe fundraiser Drag Queen, 56. (As of press time, the fundraising appeal has raised $4,300 of its $6,000 goal.)
“Recently, I, Victor — affectionately known as PorkChop — have been facing some very serious health issues,” PorkChop wrote on the GoFundMe page. “After preparing a frozen hamburger patty from a large retailer, I became seriously ill. Within 24 hours, I was transported by ambulance to AV Medical Center, where I was bedridden for a week. While in the hospital, I received intensive care, including antibiotics, dozens of tests, and began physical therapy.”
Porkchop continued, “After a full week of check-ups, my doctor diagnosed me with hyponatremia (a type of intestinal infection), acute kidney injury, atrial fibrillation, and high blood pressure. I was finally discharged from the hospital on March 8 with strict orders of 14-21 days of bed rest, requiring a house nurse, physical therapy, home supportive care, and numerous prescriptions.”
PorkChop shared encouraging news, saying she was expected to make a “full recovery,” although she admitted “the journey ahead will be challenging.”
“I’m slowly relearning how to walk, and continued physical therapy is crucial in helping me rebuild my strength,” PorkChop explains. “My most immediate need is a medical mobility scooter, which will greatly improve my quality of life and allow me to regain some independence. Being able to get out, especially to a great park near me, will be a huge boost to my physical and mental health during my recovery.”
