general hospital Star Kate Muncy revealed how her stepfather stepped in to save her life when an 11cm lump was discovered in her abdomen.
“He did a surgery that ended up saving my life,” Muncy, 38, told us people In an interview published Wednesday, March 11.
Mansi, who plays Kristina Davis on the ABC soap, went through a traumatic experience in 2015 that ultimately led to her being Diagnosed with Endometriosis. (according to mayo clinicendometriosis occurs when “the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.” It can cause symptoms such as excessive bleeding, infertility, and pain during sex. )
The Daytime Emmy winner explained that in 2015, when she was at her most unwell, she spent four days in a row either on the phone or seeing her doctor.
“I think as a society we’re ingrained in just listening to what doctors say and letting go of how we feel,” she said. “I go to these appointments and they say, ‘Oh, maybe the pain is because your IUD is turning.'” Then I get an ultrasound. No, this is not my IUD. “Well, maybe it’s just a bad period.” I was really nauseous and vomited for days and they said I probably had the flu. Maybe this, maybe that. “
Mansi tried to overcome the pain by continuing to work, until a sick makeup artist noticed she looked “pale and pale.” The soap star recalled that when she finally went to the emergency room, her stomach was so bloated that she “couldn’t even zip[her]pants up.”
Her mother and stepfather, an obstetrician and gynecologist, met her at the hospital, where they discovered an 11-centimeter mass in her abdomen. The doctors originally wanted to wait until the oncologist arrived before taking any action.
“My stepfather was so upset — because he was my stepfather, so it wasn’t biological — that he scrubbed himself off and said, ‘I’m not waiting for the oncologist. I’m going to have surgery or she’s not going to survive,'” she recalled. “He performed an operation that ultimately saved my life. I went through the most painful thing of my life and it turned out that I had a cyst on my ovary that had ruptured and I spent days trying to get over it.”

So when it ruptured, it hit the blood vessel and leaked a liter and a half of blood into my abdomen. All the blood clotted together to form this 11-centimetre mass that cut off blood and oxygen. He apparently took it out, but then he found all this endometriosis tissue.”
After the surgery, her stepfather told Mansi she had endometriosis. Since then, she has actively managed her endometriosis attacks and told people She is “much more stable now.”
