Last week, Netflix he announced Acquisition of InterPositive, an AI company founded by Ben Affleck that helps filmmakers edit images in post-production.
The deal could be worth up to $600 million, according to BloombergI can rank it among the biggest acquisitions by a startup giant. Netflix’s pay-per-view was approx $700 million for the Roald Dahl Story Company.
While Netflix has not confirmed the details, sources tell Bloomberg that the actual amount may be lower, with InterPositive owners eligible for additional payments in line with the plan.
InterPositive makes tools that help filmmakers work more efficiently in post-production – dealing with continuous or visual issues, for example – but does not create new content or use footage without permission.
This acquisition coincides with Netflix’s strong push to incorporate AI into content creation. The company has already done so used generative AI in his first movies and TV shows, including creating a scene of a house collapse in the Argentinian series “The Eternaut.”
The opposites are moving in the same direction. Amazon is building in-house AI teams for film and TV productions, right Disney partnered with OpenAI.
Not everyone is on board. Film industry workers have been concerned about job losses and whether AI companies are paying their creators properly for training.
