Kacey Musgraves Rumors have been addressed long-standing feud between her and Miranda Lambert – and say they have put all their past troubles behind them.
Musgraves, 37, and Lambert, 42, recorded their first duet for Musgraves’ upcoming album, remote placeshe announced the news on Wednesday, March 11. The collaboration comes after years of frost between the two superstars, dating back to Musgraves’ earliest days in Nashville.
Lambert scored a hit back in 2013 with the song “Mama’s Broken Heart,” which he co-wrote with Musgraves Sean McAnally and Brandi Clark. Musgraves, however, wanted to keep the song for himself.
“This will be my first single and I absolutely love this song,” Musgraves Tell NPR Music in an interview published Wednesday. “Then the song was pitched to (Miranda) without my consent or knowledge. It was a tricky situation. She ended up loving the song, and she really wanted it. And I had other co-writers to consider.”
Musgraves eventually gave the song to Lambert, but the two “lost contact over the years and did not consider each other friends.”
That changed recently when Musgraves decided to contact Lambert to discuss a possible duet. remote placewill be released on Friday, May 1st.
“I saw her riding one of her horses on Instagram one day and I was like, ‘Well, we’re not friends, but I guess we have two things in common, horses and divorce, for sure. Wait, this could be a really fun song. What if it was a duet with her? What if I asked her to write it?'” Musgraves recalled. “I just randomly reached out to her and I said, ‘I know we’ve crossed paths over the years, but listen, we have at least two things in common. I’m not trying to be your friend. You have your life and I have mine. But I think this would be a really fun song that we should write with Shane.'”
Lambert accepted her offer and they buried the hatchet on the song, which was indeed titled “Horses and Divorce.”
“She said, ‘Oh my God, yes, I’m in, let’s do it,'” Musgraves said. “So in a lot of ways it was a full circle. We hung out all our old clothes to dry. We had some laughs and wrote the song in a couple hours.”
She added, “I think it’s also probably a microcosm of what I wish the world would do sometimes, which is just sit down and make fun of each other, have a beer, and call it a day.”
Horses and Divorce is one of several collaborative works about Horses and Divorce remote placewhich also includes billy strings and willie nelson. Musgraves and Nelson, 92, have collaborated several times before, with the country icon appearing on the show in 2015 Pageant materials and 2016 A Very Kathy Christmas. for remote placeNelson sang “Uncertain, TX,” which Musgraves described as being about “a town full of asshole boys where responsibility is optional.”
“This song is a nod to the very fleeting modern dating behavior that I’ve experienced, and the perfect person to help cover that up is everyone’s favorite grandpa, Willie Nelson,” the Grammy winner explains. “He might even be a great-great-grandfather, but he’s also a gangster.”
