Florida deputies arrested two students, ages 10 and 11, who allegedly made death threats against children and teachers at the school.
One of the boys, an 11-year-old boy, attends DeLand High School in DeLand. arrested Volusia County Sheriff allegedly used another student’s online account to threaten seven teachers on Thursday, March 5 Mike Chitwood said in a post shared on Facebook.
The boy is accused of writing “I’m going to shoot you” in a message the teacher received, according to the sheriff.
A video shared by Chitwood on Facebook shows an officer detaining the student before handcuffing him and taking him into a holding cell.
Chitwood said this is the second time the boy has been arrested since the fall on a written threat to kill.
Chitwood said he was previously arrested in October at Southwest Middle School, where he allegedly made similar shooting threats.
The boy is accused of using another student’s account to send a group chat message that read, “I’m going to shoot you,” according to Chitwood.
“These silly threats disrupt our schools, consume our time and resources, and increase the likelihood that real threats will be ignored,” Chitwood wrote in a Facebook post. “If you can threaten to shoot seven teachers, you can get kicked out. Parents, discipline your kids and I won’t.”
On Wednesday, March 4, the Sheriff announced in another Facebook post, 10 year old student A student at Pride Elementary School in Deltona was arrested for making a written threat to kill.
The boy allegedly wrote a message on an elementary school whiteboard threatening to bring a gun to school, according to Chitwood.
Chitwood said he also kept a “list of people I was going to kill” on the table.
Chitwood said the list contains the names of three students and said the students’ parents have been notified.
In a video shared by Chitwood, an officer can be seen taking the 10-year-old boy into custody, where he is handcuffed behind his back.
The video showed the 10-year-old being placed in a holding cell like another student arrested on March 5.
Chitwood wrote in a Facebook post that the 10-year-old student “told officers he didn’t mean to do it” and his parents said the boy “did not obtain any firearms.”
“This does not change the consequences of his actions,” Chitwood wrote. “It’s another reminder to talk to kids and teach them this lesson before they learn it in the juvenile justice system.”
