Amazon is starting to roll out its redesigned Fire TV app to customers, the company announced Thursday. While previously you only used the app as a remote backup, the update lets you browse and access content on your phone, manage your watch list on the go, and play titles on your TV from the mobile app.
“The updated app turns smartphones into a second screen for what to watch, making it easy to add your friends’ recommendations to your watch list even when you’re away from home,” Amazon wrote in an email to TechCrunch. “This seamless integration between phone and TV makes it quick and easy for Fire TV customers to watch what they want to watch.”
The app is available in the US, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the UK.

Amazon says the refreshed interface is similar to the new Fire TV interface it launched last month, which is designed to focus more on content, and ease of navigation. The updated user interface introduced rounded corners, different gradients, consistent typography, and increased spacing between content, as well as providing more space for printed programs.
The top bar has been divided into categories with clear graphics for Movies, TV, Live TV, Sports, and News. The search button is conveniently located on the left side of the Home tab.
In these tabs, Fire TV displays what you’re already watching along with what you’ve written, organized in rows labeled “About You.” The tabs also have free movies, premium movies and videos, and some paid ones that you might like.
The evolution of the program and the user interface is due to the number of things being tracked, which has made it difficult to maintain the content available on each service, which requires platforms like Fire TV to work as a discovery center rather than a place to start opening programs.
