white lotus creator Mike White is explaining how he came up with the idea for the show.
White, 55, revealed he was inspired by Jennifer Coolidge — who starred in seasons one and two of the HBO series — created the show. While appearing on the show on Wednesday, February 25 The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonWhite explained, “Jennifer Coolidge and I, we were friends. We went on this trip, which lasted about two weeks, and we even slept in the same bed. I spent the whole two weeks with her.”
He continued, “It’s great. She’s so funny. She’s the funniest person. But life is kind of hard[for her]. There’s a lot of stuff in the wallet.”
“She’s also a little paranoid,” the director explains. “So, we’d go out and she’d be like, ‘Wow, look at those lions!’ And she’d be like, ‘You see how they look at us? I know that look! We gotta get out of here! I’m not kidding. We gotta get out of here.”

White went on to say that he felt lucky to be able to travel with Coolidge.
“I thought, ‘Whatever I’ve done in my life, I did the right thing when I’m here watching her freak out about these lions,'” he quipped. “She’s an original character. She’s amazing and I just wanted to give her a really fleshed-out role that she could really get into.”
host jimmy fallon then points out that White must have been bombarded with actors wanting to star in white lotus. White replied: “Yeah, it used to be more fun going to Hollywood parties.”
“The thing is, when you have a show that people want to be on, which I obviously appreciate, you feel like you’re turning down everyone in town,” he explained, noting that he hates turning people away. “You’re just writing a story and trying to find the right people for it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, White Season 4 of the show confirmed to be filmed in France. “We’ll have parties in Paris, but not necessarily Paris,” he said. “I’m excited. I’ll be there for the next 10 months.”
White also noted that he tried to choose a destination that was enjoyable to shoot in. “It’s a life hack, man,” he said. “You have these nice hotels and they gave me a really nice room. And then there was a white lotus cake for me to eat and champagne in the room.”
The first season of White Lens was filmed at the Four Seasons Resort in Maui, Hawaii. In the second season, he took the cast to Sicily, Italy, and the third season was filmed in Thailand.
