James Van Der Beek Fans appear to be outraged after receiving emails from the late actor’s merchandise store.
Earlier this week, some buyers reportedly received an email stating that their orders could no longer be fulfilled. The message apparently offers two options – neither of which is a refund.
Van der Beek, Died on February 11 at the age of 48It was announced in November 2025 that he would be selling football jerseys inspired by his varsity blues Character Jonathan “Mox” Moxon. Signed jerseys cost $80 and unsigned jerseys cost $40. The sale will raise funds for Van Der Beek’s treatment of colorectal cancer. Diagnosed in August 2023. (Unsigned jerseys are Currently on sale for $115.)

Customers who purchased signed jerseys were reportedly told it would take 10 to 12 weeks to receive their orders. After Van Der Beek’s death, some buyers still had not received their packages.
“You now have two options for your autographed order,” the customer email apparently reads. The first option offered is to “receive the unsigned jersey and receive a partial refund.” The second is “No refunds for unsigned jerseys received” and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Van de Beek’s family, including his wife, Kimberly VanderBeekand their six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabelle, Amelia, Gwendolyn and Jeremiah.
“We want to be completely transparent and any refunds will be deducted from the proceeds sent directly to James’ family, which will reduce the overall support they receive,” the email continued. “We are deeply grateful for your understanding and generosity during this extremely difficult time.”

The alleged email has since been shared on social media, with fans slamming the store’s message.
“This is not simple transparency, but treating a normal request for a refund as taking money away from a grieving child is another serious money grab.” A Reddit post claims. “If a refund is offered, it should be given cleanly.”
The social media user added, “It’s highly inappropriate to add emotional pressure to influence people’s decisions, which is another reason why so many people, especially those of us with cancer, are uncomfortable with how this is going.”
“This makes people feel guilty for not asking for a refund,” another Reddit user wrote. A third called the email “disgusting” in their own Reddit post.
