If you work in technology, Wired’s new cover story It won’t blow your mind, but it’s a great read all the same.

Journalist Zoë Bernard spent months talking to 51 people (31 of them gay men) to explain a culture that has been a well-known secret in Silicon Valley for years: gay men, high in technology, quietly raising their networks the way powerful people always do.

As is the case wherever there is power, the nine men interviewed describe that they have experienced inappropriate behavior from their senior colleagues – and Bernard is not shy about looking at the source of the pressure. But the source is careful about the meaning of the words: “This story is difficult to understand, and I don’t think that readers can make the distinction between some bad men being gay and all bad men being bad.
