Romano, 41, broke down as he detailed the news via social media. Instagram Video shared on Tuesday, February 17th. “One day, I went in for this cancer screening. Both of my parents had cancer. My mom beat cancer, my dad didn’t, and my grandmother on my mom’s side had lung cancer and died from it,” she begins, sitting on the couch at home.
“I got some results before filming in Florida,” said Romano, who recently completed his role in the upcoming Hallmark movie Vacation Ever After: Disney World Wishes Come True,continue. “My husband’s (results) were completely negative. Mine was not negative, so basically, that means I probably have staged cancer.”

The actress detailed her next move in the video’s caption. “I will have a PET scan later this week and hopefully this will be easily treatable,” she wrote. “I was hesitant to post this because I was worried I would appear ‘cringeful.’ But I feel it’s my responsibility to share so people can get out there and have screenings.”

“I was in Austin and saw James Van Der Beek all the time. His family was great and he was a pillar of our Texas community,” she explained through tears. “They always raised money for the most amazing charities but he’s no longer with us and cancer is everywhere – that’s why I got this test.”

Romano was equally candid in Tuesday’s video. “(It was) a very vulnerable time. It’s been about 367 days since I was shot in the face,” she said. “It’s time to have a strong sense of faith and know that everything is in God’s hands. I’m sure people think I’m overreacting but I’m not because the cancer is so severe and I have two little girls. This is a very emotional post.”
She concluded her health update on a positive note, demonstrating a determined approach to whatever the future holds. “When you’re someone like me, you have to take it one day at a time and be grateful for all the amazing things around you,” she said, before giving fans two thumbs up. “So, please know that I have a loving family around me to support me and I will continue to work hard to find answers and eventually provide you with updates.”
