Italian town holds historic street fight

A small town in northern Italy begins celebrating Carnival with its annual Orange Fight, where people throw the fruit at each other for fun.

The historic carnival in Ivrea, an ancient medieval town near Turin, celebrates the legend of Violetta, the miller’s daughter, who rescued her people from a hungry tyrant.

This colorful battle commemorates the uprising and is fought by nine foot troops, representing the revolting people, while orange throwers on carriages represent the feudal troops.
