Apple has acquired the IP and all rights to its show “Severance” from its original studio, Fifth Season, as the first. by Deadline. Under the deal, which was worth less than $70 million, Apple’s home studio will produce future seasons of the show. Season Five will remain as the main producer.
The deal is similar to the one Apple made with AMC Studios for the sci-fi show “Silo” after the first season.
Severance will now become one of Apple’s titles, joining popular series such as “Your Friends and Neighbors” and “Sticks.”
According to Deadline, the production budget for Severance exceeded what Season Five could afford. The studio had already asked Apple to go ahead and is considering moving production from New York to Canada to cut big and fast taxes. Since Apple really has money to support the show, the company decided to control everything.
Severance is important to viewers, as the show’s second season became Apple’s most-watched series at the time. It also had many nominations for the 2025 Emmy Awards.
The latest reports say that the show is expected to run for four seasons, with the possibility of spin-offs, prequels, and spin-offs.
