Thread is introducing an AI-powered feature that allows users to customize their settings, social media site Meta announced on Wednesday. The platform’s new “Favorite Algo” feature allows users to tell Threads what they want to see for a short period of time in their feed.
To use this feature, users must write “Dear Algo” in a public post, followed by what they want to see more of. For example, if you want to see information about popular podcasts, you can send “Dear Algo, show me information about podcasts.” Your food will be updated for three days after you send the request.
It is important to note that because Dear Algo works through a community, others can see your request, and they can also send your request to use in their feed. This can be a deterrent for some users, as they may not want their requests to be made public. However, Meta says it sees this as a way for users to discover new conversations and topics, turning personal experiences into social events.

By allowing users to temporarily control what appears on their feed, Threads beats out its competitors by offering features not available on competing platforms.
“Thread is where you go to keep up with what’s happening right now,” the company wrote in a blog post. “But sometimes, your interests change in an instant, and you want your Threads feed to reflect that — whether it’s watching more coverage of an NBA game or less of a TV show you’ve never watched.”
While Threads and its competitors, X and Bluesky, already offer users an easy way to express their preferences with a “Don’t Touch” button, Dear Algo’s new feature takes personalization a step further. The art would also help make Threads feel more realistic, something X was known for before.
Dear Algo is available now in the US, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK Threads plans to introduce it to more countries in the future.

The new launch comes weeks after a report from a market intelligence firm Similar website he said that The thread is now more than X for everyday phone use. While X still dominates Threads online, the Threads mobile app for iOS and Android continues to see an increase in daily users over the past few months.
The report revealed that Threads had 141.5 million daily mobile users as of January 7, 2026, while X had 125 million daily users.
