This is how the age of Roblox goes

A month later enable face authentication to be able to access chat on its platform, Roblox says that 45% of daily users were tested for age as of January 31.

Roblox’s implementation of age monitoring follows a number of child protection lawsuits, including those from the attorney general of Texas, Kentuckyand Louisiana. Cases were filed in response to reports that Roblox was targeting young users to dangerous threats, such as grooming and visible objects.

To complete age verification, users must open the Roblox app, allow access to their camera, and follow a series of on-screen instructions to verify their face. Once age verification is done, Roblox says it will delete any photos or videos of users. The warranty is prepared by a third party vendor, Manwhich also deletes photos and videos after you complete the task, Roblox says.

After users complete the age search, they can access age-specific chats, which means they can communicate with others of the same age. There are six age groups: under 9, 9 to 12, 13 to 15, 16 to 17, 18 to 20, and 21 plus. Users of any age can chat with people in groups above or below them. For example, users in the 9-12 age group can chat with people in their age groups, as well as those in the under 9 and 13-15 age groups.

If the age check system incorrectly estimates the user’s age, they can appeal the decision and verify their age through other means, including ID verification or through parental controls that allow parents to change their child’s age.

The company did so on time Q4 2025 financial release this week that age-adjusted data shows younger users than self-reported data. This is not surprising, and even Roblox himself said that he expected this. Of the 45% of users tested for age, 35% are 13 years old, 38% are between 13 and 17 years old, and 27% are 18 years old.

When the company launched this new strategy, some concerns were raised about some portals. For example, Wired He said eBay had listings for verified Roblox accounts for children as young as nine. Although eBay has removed the listings, concerns remain that adversaries could gain access to seemingly minor accounts by fooling the system.

Roblox’s chief product officer, Eliza Jacobs, told TechCrunch on Friday that the company has a system in place that goes back years to address these issues and prevent this type of abuse.

Jacobs said the platform checks to see if “there are any signs on your account that show that the age we have on the account does not match what is happening on the account. Whether it’s the types of games you play, or who you are talking to. We also have a large stroke analysis. The way adults type is different from the way children write. So (we have) many bases to make sure that the age we use is correct. We have every reason to believe that it is not correct, we will add checks to make sure that we have them well.”

He said that another way Roblox checks for age accuracy is by looking at a person’s use of emojis. Older generations tend to use emojis at the end of sentences as punctuation marks, while younger generations often put them in the middle of sentences, Jacobs explained.

In addition to using age checks to keep its platform secure, Roblox CEO and co-founder David Baszucki said during the company’s fundraising that the information collected as a result of the checks will be used to increase revenue.

“We’ve been able to find more opportunities in the 18-plus demographic than we previously thought,” Baszucki said. “We estimate that our 18-and-over age group is growing by over 50%, and this age group makes 40% more money than younger people.”

He went on to say that Roblox is developing its platform to support the growth of valuable genres that are popular with older users, such as shooters, RPGs, games, and running.

Roblox says it will continue to improve its security measures to address emerging threats and user needs.
