Los Angeles Rams Quarterback Matthew Stafford A decision has been made for the 2026-27 NFL season.
Stafford, 37, Accepting NFL MVP Award He announced during a speech at the NFL Honors Show on Thursday, February 5, that he would be returning for an 18th season.
“I’m glad to have you watching the game with me,” Stafford explain to his daughters, who joined him on stage. “I can’t wait to have you guys cheering me on next year when we do well. So we’ll see you next year – hopefully I won’t be at this event and we’re getting ready for another one at SoFi.”
SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, home to the Rams, will also host the 2027 Super Bowl.
Stafford and the Rams came very close to reaching the 2026 Super Bowl, but lost to the Seattle Seahawks 31-27 in the NFC Championship Game. The Seahawks will face the New England Patriots on Sunday, February 8th.
Stafford shares after Rams loss How did his family react? Disappointing. He and his wife, Kelly Stafford, share daughter Sawyer, 8, Chandler, 8, Hunter, 7, and Taylor, 5.
“After the game, my daughter was crying in my arms and said, ‘Dad, I feel so bad for you,'” he recalled on the Jan. 26 episode of SiriusXM’s “Let’s Go” podcast. “I told her, ‘You know what? Don’t feel sorry for me. My life is a blessing. I get to play this game. I’ve been playing it for 17 years.’ I have four little girls cheering me on and my beautiful wife is cheering me on.”
He continued, “Sports and football can be difficult at times, but it also gives me an opportunity to teach my kids and do something for them. I can sit there and say, ‘Man, I thought I played well and we didn’t win and this happened and that happened,’ but the reality is, no. Just have the guts to perform.”
“Accept the outcome and learn from it. That’s a moment I’ll never forget, and I was able to talk to her in that moment and bring her back from the tears and say that to her and say that to myself at the same time,” Matthew added. “This is something special.”
When Matthew returned home from the Rams’ season-ending loss, Kelly, 36 shared his video Give each daughter a goodnight kiss before bed. The next day, Mom and Dad surprised them with a box of donuts and a handwritten note.
“Thank you for being a rock star to me all season long!” the note read. “You all are an inspiration to daddy’s incredible year! We♥️you!”
Matthew finished the 2025-26 season with 4,707 yards passing, his most since 2021, and 46 touchdowns. He received 24 of 50 first-place votes in MVP voting, enough to defeat the Patriots quarterback Derek Meyer. It was the NFL’s closest MVP vote since 2003, making Stafford the oldest first-time MVP winner in league history.
