And then he professed his love at the end of last season,” showrunner Michelle Nader exclusively told Us Weekly of the original idea for the show. “We[created a love interest for Gabe]and it was fun and effective. And then, when we came up with this arc for Riley, our idea was that she and Andy were breaking up.”
Emily in Paris and Doctor Odyssey are perfect examples of TV shows with iconic love triangles that would have been better off introducing a threesome. She continued: “They definitely broke up eventually because we knew what we wanted and where we were going. And then it was like, ‘Oh my gosh, Jesse Williams is so funny.'” So I was like, ‘What are we doing? ‘”
Williams’ final performance “Turned” the show in a new direction.
“Right now we don’t know. We don’t know who she’s supposed to be with,” Nader admitted. “That’s the story right now. This is happening in real time for us.”

“Riley is literally hours away from her marriage. She should really pull it back a little bit,” Dennings joked to Us in March 2025 about how long it would take for Riley and Gabrielle to get together. “She had been separated for a long time and she was not emotionally involved in the relationship. But she still had just gotten out of a very long relationship.”
She continued: “She also loved Gabriel very much as a friend. So I think there were a lot of reasons for the slow burn.”
Who doesn’t love a good love story? For example, a girl falls in love with a boy and then also falls in love with his best friend. Love triangles have been a common plot point in television and movies for years, but perhaps there’s no more iconic angst-ridden trio than the one between Dawson (James Van…).

“We got along really well. We hit it off right away, we have a lot in common, and I really helped you a lot with the phone,” she quipped, with Scott adding, “When we were filming, it was the same thing.
