French police and Europol searched X’s office, the public prosecutor’s office in Paris announced the second.
Attack is part of continuous research conducted in 2025 on charges of “fraudulent data removal” of the data processing system “by the organizing team.”
France’s cybercrime prosecutors’ group said the investigation has now been expanded to cover other suspected crimes, including the acquisition and distribution of child abuse material, breach of privacy, and Holocaust denial.
The research development comes as X is owned by Elon Musk widespread criticism allowing its Grok AI to be used to create inappropriate images, including child pornography, of other people on the platform.
Musk, who he bought X (formerly Twitter) in 2022, and the former head of X Linda Yaccarino was called for questioning on April 20. Unnamed X employees were also called the same week, according to the announcement of the prosecutor.
When reached for comment, X spokeswoman Rosemarie Esposito mentioned words posted on X’s Global Government Affairs account, where the company said “the allegations of today’s threats are baseless and X categorically denies any wrongdoing.”

When asked to comment, Maylis De Roeck, spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office in Paris, confirmed the attack in a statement: “The Public Prosecutor’s goal is ultimately to ensure that the X platform complies with French law, because it operates in the country’s territory.”
