The search continues a week after a missing girl from Mesa, Arizona, was last seen at her school.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday, January 30, that they issued an emergency call looking for the 16-year-old Leila Champagne Garcia.
MCSO explained in a statement Press release Garcia was initially reported missing on Tuesday, Jan. 27, when she failed to return home from Red Mountain High School the day before.
“Leila is a student at Red Mountain High School and was last seen at school on January 26,” authorities said in a news release.

The police department added that “the specific clothing Leila was wearing at the time of her disappearance is currently unknown.” In addition, authorities said Garcia’s “potential destination” is also unknown.
Police have not yet raised suspicions whether Garcia was kidnapped or escaped on his own. Meanwhile, her family appears to have yet to speak publicly about her disappearance.
The release also described Garcia as a Hispanic female, 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 100 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes, according to MCSO.
After Garcia was reported missing, a representative from Mesa Public Schools released a statement acknowledging her disappearance and revealing how they handled the situation.
“Mesa Public Schools is aware of a situation in which a student went missing after leaving campus. The safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority,” the representative said in a statement. people.
The school district went on to say that they are “fully cooperating with local law enforcement as they lead the investigation.”
“Due to student privacy protections and the active nature of the investigation, the district is unable to share additional details at this time,” the statement added.
“Our hearts go out to the student and her family, and we remain hopeful for her safe return,” the spokesperson concluded. “Red Mountain High School and Mesa Public Schools have not released any official statements related to Garcia’s disappearance.”
