As Intel continues to try to turn it around, its CEO promised that the company will begin to produce a new type of chip, which has become popular with Nvidia.
Pa Cisco AI Summit On Tuesday, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan announced that the company will start producing graphics processing units (GPUs). These are very specialized processors, compared to the CPUs that Intel has already produced, and are used in games and applications like training artificial intelligence models.
TechCrunch reached out to Intel for more information.
The project will be overseen by Kevork Kechichian, vice president and general manager of Intel’s data center group, according to report from Reuters. Kechichian was hired in September between a the imaginary killers of the new engineer.
Intel also hired Eric Demers to do this in January. Demers was previously at Qualcomm for more than 13 years, most recently serving as senior vice president of engineering.
This seems to be only a short time away as Mr Tan said the company plans to develop its strategies based on customers’ wants and needs.
Although Nvidia didn’t make the GPU, the chip itself has played a big part in its success. Its GPUs for AI systems are very advanced and popular, the chipmaker currently has a leading the market.

It is great to see Intel growing in this area as Tan said the company will be including focusing on its core businesses when he took over as CEO last March. Although GPUs are still semiconductors, yes, this is a notable development.
