Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos Revealed that after learning more about the crime scene, he concluded Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrie – missing since Saturday night – is in danger.
“We don’t want anyone to lose hope,” Nanos told us weekly Available only on Monday, February 2nd. “But in the same sense that there is hope, there are also things that indicate to us, ‘This woman is in danger.'”
“It does relate to the scenario that was described to us,” he continued. “I’ve been doing this for 50 years. When something doesn’t go right, it doesn’t sit well“.
He added, “There was something unusual going on in that house that made us think ‘Wow… something’s wrong here. Something doesn’t fit.'”
Search and rescue teams were mobilized, using drones and police dogs to find the 84-year-old man. Authorities are also being supported by volunteers, Border Patrol and homicide squads.
“I get briefings every day, sometimes multiple times, on different search and rescue operations. Very rarely do we call out homicides publicly,” Nanos said. “But this guy came across some information that was relevant to me, and I just thought, ‘We need to do this from two angles.’ I need to let the search and rescue teams do their job. But I need to bring my homicide unit in because something’s not right here. I need them to start a criminal investigation and we’ll get together.”
He continued, “We really hoped that this was a search and rescue mission and that we would find her and that she was okay. But we’d be foolish – it wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t.” Look what’s in front of us And then say, ‘We need to take action, and we have to take action.’ ‘”
Nanos said before us Guthrie was “sleeping safely in his own home” and was “taken away,” adding, “This should never happen.”
There were other serious factors that could have put her life in danger.
“We spoke with her medical professionals … and we knew what medications she needed and that if she didn’t take them it could be fatal,” Nanos explained. “After 24 hours, time is of the essence here.”
Nancy was last seen on Saturday, January 31, Nanos confirmed us That It turned out to be Anne GuthrieSavannah’s sister, she was the last person to see Savannah when she walked her home. (Nancy shares daughters Anne and Savannah, 54, and son Cameron Guthrie with late husband Charles Guthriedied of a heart attack at the age of 49. )
Nanos explained that Nancy’s family was not “notified” that she was missing until about 11 a.m. the next day, while police were not alerted until 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, February 1, leading officials to investigate a timeline “from 9:30 p.m. to 11 a.m.” as a window of when Nancy is missing.
Nanos told CBS News on Monday that he believed the mother of three was “kidnapped,” telling the outlet, “She didn’t come out of there. She didn’t leave of her own volition.”
Nanos said the “possibility” that Savannah became a “national figure” may have been involved, but law enforcement “wasn’t aware” of it at the time. “We’ve been working with Savannah and her security team to understand any type of threats or potential threats that they might have been working on and we just weren’t there,” he told us us.
Savannah was noticeably absent from Monday’s show of today exhibit She searched for her mother with her relatives in Arizona.
