After the show returns on Thursday, January 29, producers Jesse Brownell Weighing Francesca’s (Hannah Dodd) Unable to reach “peak” With husband John (Victor Ali).
“(We) more naturally wanted to explore different types of intimacy with different characters,” Brownell told type. “Especially Francesca’s story, I’m really excited about because I think on the show, obviously, people have this fantasy of having magical orgasms at the same time all the time, which is really fun, but it also doesn’t accurately represent what most women experience.”
Brownell excited about how to ’empower’The Relevance of Francesca’s Story” Will.
“I hope it’s clear from our storytelling that we’re not trying to show that just because she can’t orgasm, that means something is wrong with her relationship with John,” she continued. “They just have a different kind of slow-growing passion. Her situation is very common, and I think it would be great to represent all different types of love and different types of intimacy on screen.”
She continued: “This is probably a universal issue and also a very specific issue to Francesca’s character. I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily about John and Mikayla, but I think Fran is someone who’s not connected to herself, literally or metaphorically, and that’s probably part of the reason why she’s not able to climax.”

Hannah Dodd plays Francesca Bridgerton and Victor Ali plays John Sterling in “Bridgerton.”
Liam Daniel/NetflixJulia Quinnof when he does evil It focuses on Francesca’s marriage to her current husband, John, before her shocking death. Francesca would then go on to find love again with John’s cousin Michael. However, the series replaced Michael with Michaela (Marsali Baduza), during the season three finale.
After backlash, Quinn expressed support for the shift while revealing the only details She asked to keep her book.
“I made it clear that it was extremely important to me to represent Francesca’s enduring love for John on screen,” she wrote on Instagram in 2024. “When I wrote When He Was Evil , I actually had to fight for the first four chapters, which establish this love. My publisher was worried that writing about Fran’s love for John would take away from Michael’s role as the ultimate romance novel hero.”
She added: “I felt that if I didn’t show how much she loved John and how much his cousin Michael loved him, then the guilt they felt over loving each other after John’s death would be meaningless. I didn’t want to just tell the reader that they loved him. I hope readers will feel that. I’m now confident that when Francesca does her season of Bridgerton, it will be the most touching and heartbreaking story in the show, just like When He Was Evil has been a real tearjerker in the Bridgerton books.”
Brownell has since defended Francesca’s actions The marriage to John was over.
“I wanted to separate (Francesca’s) biggest trouble from her relationship with John,” she said in a separate interview with TVLine. “Her peak predicament represents the millions of women for whom reaching orgasm through penetrative sex alone is impossible. I know we’re a fantasy show, but I’m really interested in representing a level of reality when it comes to sex. This level of lifting the curtain on the mystery of sex has always been part of the show.”
Brownell urged fans not to blame Francesca’s orgasm issues on her husband. She also praised John’s “green flag” after discovering Francesca’s conversation with him in their bedroom.
“I believe the love between them is very real,” she shared. “Love comes in many forms and it’s important to open it up to viewers to form their own understanding of the specific type of love Fran and John share.”
