Pete Heather Collins’ shocking absence from season 2 is finally acknowledged – but how the show was written off Tracy Ifejo?
During the Thursday, January 29, episode of the hit HBO Max series, Dr. Whitaker explained that Dr. Collins “finished residency and got a job as an attending physician in Portland.” He also revealed that Collins was “adopting a child” and “wanted to be closer to his family.”
US Weekly Confirmed July 2025 Ifeachor won’t do it again Her role in season two. The decision was reportedly made by the show’s creative team, a source revealed us Ifeachor’s character (who was a fourth-year resident in the first season) always planned to go on to become a doctor in future episodes.
Insider Note that due to the nature of PeteCollins will not appear in season 2, but Ifejo “has not chosen to leave the show” and is not aware that “any door to a potential return has been closed.”
“It’s been such a joy and privilege to play Dr. Heather Collins, and I know my character is so popular. It blows my mind,” Ifejo told us September 2025. “I don’t know where she’s going to be on the weekends next season, but I know where I’ll be, and it’s my next project, which is awesome. But I learned a lesson from playing Dr. Heather Collins — playing this character who goes through such a traumatic event but still shows up to other people every day.”

She continued: “[No one]stopped to ask her if she was okay, if she needed a break, if she needed to run away. I think as a woman, we carry a lot of emotional labor sometimes without even realizing it. I learned that through this role, so I wouldn’t change that. This experience really changed my life.”
Ifejo admits she doesn’t know Where will her character be after the events of season one.
“These are tough stories. Do I think she can get out of this? Maybe. Again, if she can be safe, she’s going to have a lot of fun. Where does she go next?” she added. “Playing a character that is so nuanced and so well-written gives me a lot to do, which is that this is a story that can go anywhere. At the same time, I’m going to let the audience decide where she goes.”
At the time, Ifeachor teased her future on the show, adding, “I’ve been busy with other projects. I’m actually starring in a movie with Jake Gyllenhaal, so that’s exciting, and then I’ll start working on my next project.”
Ifeachor is vague will she come back future.
“I loved playing Dr. Heather Collins. I was so invested in her and so dedicated to her, and I really left it all on the court,” she added, before joking, “I left it all in the bathroom that day. So, I really loved this character and this person. I just kept going.”
