Many Tennessee residents are sharing their experiences with the winter storm fern that has wreaked havoc in and around the Nashville area.
Fern has dumped snow, sleet, freezing rain and ice on much of the East Coast in recent days as the region struggles to return to normal.
according to tennesseeThe storm paralyzed roads, snapped trees and power poles, downed power lines and stranded residents. As of Tuesday, January 27, eight weather-related deaths have been confirmed in Tennessee, according to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.
“Still no power, but the linemen are finally around,” country singer Maren Morris she wrote via Instagram Story on Tuesday, wearing a warm winter coat. “While there’s a lot of damage that needs to be repaired, there’s also hope.”
Jesse James Decker shared a video of her husband, Eric Deckershoveling in the home’s front yard while cutting tree branches and gathering firewood.
“When other women say ‘I don’t need a man,’ I just smile because I need my man so bad,” she via Instagram Tuesday. “I’ll have dinner on the table for you when you come in.”
As the region prepares for another cold snap over the weekend, read on to see what some of Nashville’s biggest stars experienced during the storm:
olympic gymnast Sean Johnson East was one of thousands of residents who lost power during the storm.
“That was our house, but now my parents have no power,” Johnson East, 34, shared via her Instagram Story on Tuesday. “We came up to my parents while our parents were out and a tree pulled out our electrical panel. It’s been 4 days now without power and no end in sight. Now my parents are just out so we have to make a plan on where to go. 4 adults, 3 kids and 6 animals.”
Johnson-East said “most people” had left the city because “it was too cold.”
“Even the fireplaces couldn’t keep up, or people were running out of supplies or wood,” she claimed. “We didn’t have a generator. That’s not common in Nashville. That was definitely the first thing we got when we got through this. A generator and cleaning 100 tires.”
Country singer Jessie James Decker, who has lived in Tennessee since 2007, said she has “never seen anything like this.”
“To all the frontline workers and first responders, thank you. ❤️🙏🏽,” she wrote via email Instagram Tuesday. “We can’t even imagine what you are going through and how you are working tirelessly to help our community.”
Bachelor alum Lauren Lane Shared a glimpse of her neighbor as she tried to help the birds that visited her home.
“Nashville looks so, so sad right now. So many downed trees and damage,” she wrote on Instagram Stories on Tuesday. “I feed them every day. They gorge themselves all the time. My feeder fell out of the window. It’s cold but they are hungry little birds.”
hallmark actress Kyler Leigh She takes no chances until the winter storm ferns arrive in her city.
“I was very prepared for this ice storm. Really. I had my kids and pets, so I accepted any situation without a lot of worry beforehand,” she via Instagram Tuesday. “That being said, I have been without power since Sunday morning. I have a lot of large trees and branches down in my yard (luckily no structural damage). Honestly, when the actual scene unfolded, it sounded like a small explosion. Trees succumbing to the weight of the ice and falling. Very eerie.”
hills alum Ashley Walker She couldn’t believe what she was seeing in the community.
“There are still so many people who don’t have power. I’ve never seen so much destruction. It’s so heartbreaking,” she wrote on Instagram Stories on Tuesday. “I’ve seen a lot of trees with friends and their farms etc and it looks like most of the property is fine, it’s really God’s protection!”
influencer Cole Labrant He was able to get out of his house and share what his neighborhood looked like after the storm.
“This ice storm really rocked our families and our city. I don’t think anyone was really prepared for this level of destruction,” he said via Instagram Tuesday. “We are extremely fortunate to have great friends who are helping us. We are grateful to the crews who are working tirelessly to restore power to everyone. Praying for our city and everyone affected tonight.”

“As a Canadian, I thought they were being overly dramatic, but that’s not the case. It’s crazy,” she said in an Instagram Story on Tuesday. “Thanks for the strength my friends give me. Puzzles are a great antidote to my anxiety.”

“As a Nashville native, I have never seen such devastation in my hometown. This storm has left 200,000 to 220,000 people without power since Saturday. People are freezing. 8 people have died,” she wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, January 28. “Roads are impassable. Hospitals and shelters are without power. People are freezing.”
