Google ranks Gemini for students who study for India’s highest college entrance exams

Google is expanding its push into AI-powered learning by adding regular tests to Gemini for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), India’s international professional exam which are used to select applicants to the country’s top technical schools and are taken by millions of students every year.

Google said students can take the JEE mock exam within Gemini, which will offer questions based on verified data from Indian learning companies PhysicsWallah and Careers360.

The establishment comes after the company they recently released a similar test kit for the SAT.

After students complete a mock test at Gemini, Google said chatbots will provide instant feedback, showing areas of strength and where learning is needed. It can also predict the correct answers and help students create a personalized learning plan based on their performance, the company said.

The launch of the practice test at Gemini shows a big push for chatbots to be a test preparation tool rather than an answer key.

In addition to Gemini, Google said that JEE Main preparation tools will be deployed in AI Mode in Search, including the Canvas toolwhich allows students to create study guides and interactive quizzes by combining their class notes.

Google says students in India are using Gemini to study subjects ranging from advanced technology to major STEM topics, and NotebookLM to turn learning materials into quizzes, flashcards and summaries or videos. Google’s AI tools are available in several Indian languages.

Google said it is also expanding its focus on Indian teachers, and plans to work with government agencies on a global program to help teachers and assistants use AI in the management and design of education.

The company said it is partnering with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Chaudhary Charan Singh University on a pilot to build a “public university powered by AI.” The project aims to create a national system for the use of AI in vocational and higher education, including teaching and supporting students, as well as administrative tasks.

Additionally, the company said its philanthropic arm, Google.org, is supporting Wadhwani AI with a grant of ₹850 million (about $10 million) to integrate AI into government-run educational platforms. The project focuses on systems such as national online learning portals and public education platforms, with the aim of making them more flexible and reducing administrative burdens for teachers.

The program runs from primary school through high school, and includes tools such as voice reading support in several Indian languages, and AI-powered English learning coaches. The company says it has already reached nearly 10 million students and teachers, and aims to grow to 75 million students, 1.8 million teachers, and 1 million startup professionals by the end of 2027.
