A Georgia mechanic was found guilty of murder in the death of a friend, whose body was found “on a stretch of highway” about five years after authorities said he was shot to death.

Prosecutors said Leverett shot and killed Fleming on Sept. 19, 2018, after authorities said Fleming went to Leverett seeking “repayment” for overdue “auto work” that he had paid Leverett to complete.

An argument reportedly broke out between Leverett and Fleming in the days before the murder, when Leverett spent about five months repairing a Chevrolet that Fleming had left him.
Prosecutors said Leverett eventually began planning to kill Fleming, the newspaper reported.

The office said evidence gathered by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the FBI implicated Leverett in the murder.
Prosecutors said some of the evidence included phone records showing Leverett was with Fleming on the day he was killed.
Flemings’ car was also located in a warehouse owned by Leverett’s former boss, the district attorney’s office said.
Leverett is also accused of pawning Fleming’s personal belongings after the killing.
Witnesses also testified about Leverett’s “financial status and sudden access to cash on the day of the murder,” prosecutors said.
Before Leverett’s sentence was read in court, the judge Connie Williford According to Fleming’s relatives telegraphand said: “Nothing that happens here can undo what has happened.”
“But please know that this court expresses its solemn respect for the life of John Fleming III and the extraordinary love and strength of his extended family and many friends,” Williford added.
The courtroom was more than half filled with relatives and friends of Fleming, the newspaper reported.
