Nigella Lawson Intervening as a judge exist The Great British Bake Off back Prue Leithof unexpected departure.
“I am uncharacteristically speechless right now,” Lawson, 66, said of her new role in a statement on Monday, January 26. “Of course, following in the footsteps of two great ladies, Prue Leith and Mary Berry, is daunting, but I’m also beyond excited.”
Lawson continued: “The Great British Bake Off is more than just a TV show, it’s a national treasure and it’s a huge privilege to be entrusted with it. I’m delighted to be joining the team and all the new bakers who are coming and I wish the wonderful Prue all the best and am very grateful for the opportunity!”
The news comes just days after Leith, 86, revealed she would be leaving the team.
“After judging 9 series and judging over 400 challenges, I have decided to step down as a judge on The Great Britain Bake Off,” she wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, January 21. “The Bake Off has been a wonderful part of my life for the past 9 years and I truly love it and I am sure I will miss working with my fellow judges Paul, Alison and Noel and the team at Love Productions and Channel 4.”
Leith noted that it felt like the “right time” for her to leave, adding, “Oh my gosh, I’m 86 years old! … There’s so much I want to do, especially enjoy my garden in the summer. Whoever joins the team, I’m sure they’ll love it as much as I do.”

The Great British Bake Offwhich premiered in 2010, Sensation around the world After finding a home on Netflix, a group of amateur bakers compete against each other in a series of rounds. They must impress two judges with their baking skills, eliminating one contestant in each round.
Leith succeeded Judge Mary Berry in 2017. The show also stars fellow judges Paul Hollywood and host Noel Fieldingthe comedian also joined Alison Hammond 2023.

“I don’t have a chance to see a long-term goal, but if you ask me if I’m planning on retiring, no, I’m not. I love doing it. For example, I asked them to install ramps (during the 2023 season) because my legs are bad.”
“They had a little ramp set up for me to get on stage, so I thought that ramp was pretty good, we didn’t have one last year, so I think I’ll ask them for it next year,” Liss continued.
At the time, Leith revealed when she knows her time will appear on the show.
“I wanted to leave before I was forced to. But my husband and my best friend would tell me, ‘Listen, enough is enough.
