ChatGPT pulls answers from Elon Musk’s Grokipedia

Information from the standard, AI-powered encyclopedia developed by Elon Musk’s xAI has begun to appear in responses from ChatGPT.

xAI launched Grokipedia in October, after Musk complained that Wikipedia favored conservatives. Journalists soon noticed that where most of the stories seemed to be copied directly from WikipediaGrokipedia as well he said that pornography caused the AIDS crisis, provided “psychological justifications” for slavery, and used slurs against transgender people.

Everything one would expect in a chatbot-related encyclopedia called himself “Mecha Hitler” and he got used to it X’s flood is deeply immoral. However, its content seems to be moving outside of Musk’s universe, and The Guardian reports that GPT-5.2 referred to Grokipedia six times in response to more than a dozen questions.

The Guardian reports that ChatGPT did no refer to Grokipedia when asked about widely reported topics—topics like the January 6 attacks or the HIV/AIDS epidemic. In fact, it was mentioned in our more obscure titles, including Sir Richard Evans’ own statement The Guardian had already resolved it. (Anthropic’s Claude also seems to cite Grokipedia to answer some questions.)

A spokesperson for OpenAI told the Guardian that it “intends to generate data from a wide range of publicly available resources.”
