If your Gmail account didn’t seem to be working properly on Saturday, you weren’t alone. But Google says the issue has been resolved.
The official dashboard of Google Workspace indicates that the problems began around 5am Pacific Saturday morning, when users were met with “malicious emails in their inboxes and additional spam warnings.”
For me, this meant that my Primary inbox was full of messages that usually appeared in the Promotions, Groups, or Updates boxes, and that spam warnings were appearing in emails from known senders. Some readers complained on social media that “all spam is going to my inbox” and that Gmail filters are visible “suddenly full blast.”
Google’s dashboard was updated with messages throughout the day on Saturday saying that the company is still working to resolve the issue. Later on Saturday evening, Google wrote that the problem was “completely resolved for all users.”
“Some Gmail users have experienced a disruption of email in their mailboxes, delays in receiving emails,” the company said in a dashboard update. “Additionally, false spam alerts in the event may continue to be received before the event ends.”
The company also said it would “publish a review of the incident after completing our internal investigation.”
