After White was arrested, police recovered his ID, birth certificate, debit card and Social Security card from the room.

A motel employee told police he was called to the room earlier in the day and spoke with Machnick, who said she would stay another night.

The employee later returned to the room around 2:38 p.m. and received no response when he knocked on the door. The worker used a key to enter the room and found Machnik dead and bleeding from the head, the affidavit states.

Surveillance video allegedly shows White leaving the motel room at 11:28 a.m., three hours before Machnik’s body was found. The footage also shows that no one else entered or left the room after White left.

Machnik’s mother allegedly told police that her daughter and White had married a year ago and that Machnik “had been out of control ever since.”

Police interviewed a man who claimed to be Machnik’s on-again, off-again boyfriend since 2020, who said he often sent her money because she often stayed at motels. The man also said he had access to Machnik’s Uber account, which showed someone using her account to travel to another nearby motel. The app showed the passenger boarded the ride-share car about an hour after Machnik was killed.

An employee at the second motel said he turned White down when he asked for a room because he couldn’t provide identification.

Police found White at an area hospital, where he was handcuffed.

White told police he started dating Machnick a year ago and they stayed at a motel, the affidavit said. In addition to admitting he shot her, White said he and Mahnik had been doing drugs together.

“Defendant stated that Machnik told him that the father of her children would be released from prison in eleven months and would kill them,” the affidavit states. “The defendant stated that Machnik asked him to shoot her in the area where his name was tattooed on her face. The defendant stated that he shot her once in the head and then fled the room in shock. The defendant stated that after he left the room, he discarded the gun in a sewer near some apartment buildings.”

A plea and attorney information were not available for White, who remains in custody without bail.
