Jeff Bezos’ space company Blue Origin has just announced a new satellite internet network TeraWave which can provide data speeds of up to 6Tbps, and is aimed at businesses, data centers, and government customers.
The TeraWave constellation will use a combination of 5,280 satellites in low-Earth orbit and 128 in medium-Earth orbit, and Blue Origin is planning to send the first one at the end of 2027. It is not known how long Blue Origin expects it will take to build the entire network.
The Low-Earth orbit satellites Blue Origin is building will use RF connectivity and have a maximum data transfer speed of 144 Gbps, while the mid-Earth models will use a optical link that will achieve a maximum speed of 6Tbps. Incidentally, SpaceX’s Starlink currently tops out at 400 Mbps – although it is planning to launch upgraded satellites to deliver it. 1 Gbps data transfer in the future.
“TeraWave adds geostationary capabilities to existing networks, connecting to areas that cannot be reached by traditional means,” the satellite network’s new website reads.
The announcement of the TeraWave network comes just months after Bezos’ other company, Amazon, announced a revamp of its consumer-focused satellite network. That network, called Leoeventually it will have around 3,000 satellites in Low-Earth orbit and provide traditional mass launch vehicles.
Combined, the two networks could provide serious competition to SpaceX’s Starlink, which has become the world’s leading internet service provider to more than 9 million customers. Starlink currently markets its connectivity to private consumers, commercial customers (such as airlines), and governments.
That said, the two networks from Amazon and Blue Origin are different.

“We realized a lack of compatibility with customers who are looking for access to the internet for companies with high speed, slow speed / download, high redundancy, and fast scalability in their networks. TeraWave solves these problems,” said Blue Origin in a conversation with TechCrunch.
Blue Origin has spent years in development on several projects, and is best known for the short flights to space it offers on its small New Shepard rocket.
The company has recently started to look like a multi-brand player. In 2025, the company launched its mega-rocket, New Glenn, for the first time and repeated the same a few months later. It landed again an extra stage in his second attemptand launched his first NASA salary.
The company plans to send a robotic lander to the surface of the Moon this year on the third launch of New Glenn. Now, with TeraWave, it will add “satellite manufacturer and operator” to its growing list of offerings.
