Second lady Usha Vance announces pregnancy with fourth child

Usha Vance, wife of Vice President J.D. Vance, announced that she is pregnant with their fourth child.

In a post on X, the second lady said she was expecting a boy in late July.

“Usha and the baby are doing well,” read a statement posted on the second lady’s social media account on Tuesday.

Vance and his wife Usha, 40, have three young children: Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.

Usha Vance (née Chilukuri) was born and raised in a working-class suburb of San Diego, California, to a mechanical engineer father and a molecular biologist mother who immigrated to the United States from Andhra Pradesh, India.

She met J.D. Vance in 2010 while she was a student at Yale Law School, when they participated in a discussion group on “The Decline of White America.”

Before becoming second lady, Usha Vance practiced law, including as a corporate litigator at Munger, Tolles & Olson in San Francisco. Before being appointed to the Supreme Court by Trump, she also worked for conservative judges Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Court of Appeals Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Usha Vance is the first to give birth to a child as second lady, although other first ladies have had children while their husbands were in office.

First Lady Frances Cleveland, wife of President Grover Cleveland, gave birth to their daughter Esther at the White House in 1893, followed by the birth of their second child, Marion, outside the White House.

J.D. Vance has been one of the most outspoken members of the Trump administration calling for higher U.S. birth rates.

“Let me say it very simply: I want more babies to be born in the United States of America,” he said in 2025.
