How Matt Damon lost 40 pounds to reach ‘high school’ weight in ‘The Odyssey’


Matt Damon experienced a major weight loss transformation before shooting Odyssey.

“I’m in really good shape. I’ve lost a lot of weight,” Damon, 55, said on the Wednesday, Jan. 7, episode of “New Heights” podcastnoted the director Christopher Nolan He is expected to look “thin and strong” to play the iconic hero Odysseus. “I really don’t eat…gluten anymore.”

According to Damon, he “used to weigh between 185 and 200 pounds” but lost weight to 167 pounds. Odyssey.

“I haven’t been that light since high school. It’s a lot of training and a very strict diet,” the Oscar winner said. “I (have a trainer, but they) ask, ‘What are we doing?’ They can do anything. Just have a clear goal and set it.”

Damon considers his training “part of[his]day and job.”

“You’re used to this, a day around you All that stuff,” he said. “That’s the physical aspect of preparation. “

In addition to spending time in the gym, Damon has also adopted a gluten-free nutrition plan.

“I make everything gluten-free. I found a gluten-free beer,” he said. “I haven’t had gluten in a long time and I didn’t know if it was good or not, so that’s a good sign.”

Odyssey Adapted from Homer’s poem of the same name, it tells the story of Odysseus’ ten-year journey back home from the Trojan War. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Mia Goss etc.

“I’m a fan of (Christopher Nolan). I love the movies he makes and the way he keeps making them,” Damon said of the filmmaking. “This movie was 100 percent made on IMAX. It was the first movie made entirely on IMAX, and the IMAX cameras were so loud. It sounded like a blender (or) a Cuisinart being put in your face.”

Due to camera noise, the actors were unable to film dialogue scenes as they normally would.

“They built this huge thing around IMAX for those dialogue scenes and a mirror system so that your eyes are close to the camera and you can talk to the other actors,” Damon said. “He did a lot of work trying to figure out how to do it because he wanted to do it 100 percent IMAX, and he did it. It was like a very ambitious idea on his part technically.”

Damon continued, “Then, we went to some locations…and I started laughing when we got there. I’d be like, ‘Nobody’s doing any commercial filming here, but of course he wants to film it here.'”

Damon further praised Nolan’s “great team” for putting the ambitious epic together.

“His crew was amazing and everyone worked their butt off on this movie and we had all the days together. We actually finished ahead of schedule,” he said. “It’s a great experience, (but) it’s just a great experience. I haven’t seen it yet.”
