Things have never been the same at a Philadelphia-area restaurant and bar since a walrus penis was stolen from the iconic restaurant.
The owner of Donkey’s Place, the famous cheesesteak dive bar in Camden, New Jersey, doesn’t want the thieves caught. They just want their priceless antique walrus penis returned intact, NJ.com reports.
This strange-looking baculum—the walrus baculum or oosik, if you want to get technical—is on display at the Donkey House along with megalodon teeth and other interesting artifacts. As the article states, stolen walrus penises became a hot topic among customers.
owner Rob Lucas Jr., He told NJ.com he couldn’t remember a time when the walrus penis wasn’t behind the bar at Donkey’s Place. Lucas said first-time visitors to the restaurant often ask staff what kind of bones they are looking at. Lucas explained that bartenders there would often bring a bone in, have them look at it closely, and then ask them to guess its original owner.
But last week, a bartender lost track of the walrus penis.
“The bartender hands them the drink and lets them figure out what it is,” Lucas said. “(The woman with the walrus penis) went to the back to do something else and a guy stole it.”
Lucas said there was a clear photo of the penis bone thief and he suspected he was not “from around town.”
Donkey’s Place releases a TikTok video on New Year’s Evefeaturing a bartender who loses his walrus penis. In the video, she urged customers to bring it back.
“I didn’t expect them to do something like this,” the bartender explains in the video. “If whoever stole it is looking at this, please bring it back. It won’t be the same without it.”
Lucas said he is the grandson of Donkey’s original owner, a 1940s boxer. Leon “Donkey” Lucas —He earned his nickname for the power of his punches, which opponents compared to donkey kicks. He wanted his penis back without asking any questions.
Donkey’s Place has not yet attempted to contact the man, who paid for the meal with a credit card.
“We don’t want to file a police report or anything like that,” Lucas said. “We just want to get our stuff back.”
Strangely, there are no reviews on Yelp US Weekly While reading “A Place for Donkeys” there was a mention of a walrus’ penis.
US Weekly Two polished walrus penis bones were found on eBay. One is priced at $950 and the other is priced at $1,000.
the late Anthony Bourdain I once praised Donkey’s Place for their cheesesteaks. on an episode of bourdain’s show Part unknownThe food at Donkey’s Place forced the celebrity chef to question whether Philadelphia really is “the center of the cheesesteak world” or if it’s just Donkey’s Place.
“Look at the Jersey cheesesteak,” Bourdain narrates in the episode. “It’s round and has steak, spices, brown onions, real American cheese, and a poppy seed roll. It’s amazing.”
