OpenAI unveils ChatGPT Health, says 230 million users ask about health every week

OpenAI has announced ChatGPT Health On Wednesday, the company said it would provide a dedicated space for users to chat with ChatGPT about their health.

People already use ChatGPT to ask for medical advice; OpenAI says more than 230 million people ask health and wellness questions on the platform every week. But ChatGPT Health product keeps these conversations away from your other chats. That way, your health issues won’t come up in regular chats with ChatGPT.

If people start talking about their health outside of the Health field, then AI wants to force them to change.

In healthcare, AI can explain what you’ve talked about in its context. If you ask ChatGPT to help you create a marathon training plan, for example, the AI will know you’re a runner when you talk to Health about your fitness goals.

ChatGPT Health may also integrate personal information or medical records from health apps such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. OpenAI notes that it does not use the Health conversation to train its models.

CEO of Applications at OpenAI, Fidji Simo, wrote in blog post that they see ChatGPT Health as a solution to existing issues in the healthcare environment, such as cost and access barriers, drug addiction, and lack of care.

Although the health system has its problems, using AI chatbots for medical advice it creates a number of new problems. LLMs like ChatGPT work by predicting what will happen to a question, not the correct answer, since LLMs have no idea what is true or not. AI models like it too it’s a nightmare.

In its own words, OpenAI says it “has not been used to diagnose or treat any disease.”

The project is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
