A Wyoming woman told her sister a month before she was murdered that she believed her ex-boyfriend was capable of killing her.
Grieving family of 20-year-old man Mekhi Dawn Bradshaw Her tragic death was part of a murder-suicide in Lyman Township on Dec. 16, and hopefully this will help other families avoid the heartache they have experienced.
Great feature written by Cowboy State DailyMessi’s father, Justin Bradshawdescribes how he received a call from her on his way to work, learned from her that her ex was outside her apartment, and then ran to her house in a vain attempt to prevent what she predicted would happen.
Justin recalled hearing two gunshots as he reached for the doorknob to enter Macy’s apartment.
“I actually heard his body hit the floor,” Justin said, adding that he opened the door to find Macy and her ex-boyfriend, James Huntmotionless on different sides of the room. They were both still alive with gunshot wounds to their heads. Macy was lying on the bed and Justin rushed to her.
“She was still alert, still conscious, and she asked me to help her,” Justin said. “She said, ‘Dad, I’m going to throw up. I need to get on the floor.'”
Justin called 911, but neither Macy nor Hunter could be saved.
“About a month ago, Messi said to me, ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if James killed me and then committed suicide,'” Messi’s closest sister said, tyler bradshaw. “I never thought this would actually happen.”
The article tells the story of how teenage love turned into toxic codependency as Macy moved into Hunter’s parents’ home during her junior year, the year after Hunter graduated from high school. The two spent every moment together and began to distance themselves from their friends.
“Things started going downhill from that point on,” Taylor said. “They spent all their time at home. He stopped going out with friends. Both of their mental health got really bad. They started drinking heavily. I think that’s when she went out and it was something they often did together.”
Macy told her sister that their relationship was fading and that he would threaten to harm himself when she tried to discuss the breakup.
“She knew she needed to be away from him for a long time, but she kept telling me, ‘I care about him very much and I don’t want him to do anything to me,'” Taylor said.
Days after Macy’s 18th birthday, Hunter told Macy he threatened to harm himself in order to maintain a relationship with her, and she moved to Utah with the help of her parents. But after two years away, Messi returned to Lehmann, found a job as a waiter and moved into his own apartment.
“Messi is very proud to have his own place,” Bradshaw explained. “She made everything look cute. She had a job, a car. She felt like she was finally independent in her own world.”
As time passed, the high school sweethearts began seeing each other again, which caused problems for her family as Hunter seemed withdrawn and reclusive. Physically, the father said, he lost an unhealthy amount of weight and stopped caring about his appearance.
Justin said James forced his daughter to sign a “soul contract” with him, after which he “gave her a blood painting. It was this demonic painting and he cut himself and used his own blood to complete the painting,” the friend said This is Martin. said, adding that Messi considered the drawings to be a symbolic threat.
Then, in September, the two met for a date. Hunter decided to bring a gun.
“She sent me a message saying, ‘He has a gun. This is not normal. I don’t feel safe. I have to tell someone. I’m going to delete this message,'” Martin said. He then called police, even though “she told me not to tell anyone about it.”
A month later, when it appeared that Macy was going to be with another man, Hunter began driving his car around the new man’s neighborhood. Justin said Macy also found out her ex-boyfriend was stalking her. Then, Martin said, Hunter “put his hands on her,” and she decided that was the last straw. She broke off the conversation, but James wasn’t about to go quietly.
Martin said he showed up outside her home looking for Macy inside. “He knocked on the door. Macy hid in the corner and we contacted Taylor via FaceTime. He knocked on the door again and I told him, ‘Macy said she’s done. You have to respect that.'”
Martin added: “We were scared. I was very scared that there was a gun on the other side of the door.”
On the morning of Dec. 17, Hunter parked around the corner from Macy’s apartment and walked to her building.
Her sister believes he gained entry to Macy’s apartment by popping the window frame of the front door and reaching inside to unlock the door. After the murder-suicide, first responders discovered duct tape and zip ties in James’ pockets.
“I think James had malicious intent beyond taking her life,” Justin said. “But the timing was so quick — I arrived just minutes after he broke into her home — that he didn’t have time to do anything else. Sometimes that kid is happy and good-hearted and has nothing but genuine love and intentions for Macy. But that’s not the person I saw that day. The evil of the world … got a hold of him.”
Justin said he was happy to be with Macy during her final moments and make her feel safe. “The pain and suffering was evident on her face, but she was still with me and she talked to me,” he recalled. “I think she found a little bit of peace knowing I was there to help her.”
Hunter and Massey later died at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City. A brief police investigation determined Hunter killed Massey before taking his own life.
Macy’s loved ones established a nonprofit called New Dawn to provide mental health resources to young women and others.
