A beloved North Carolina science teacher who was murdered in a weekend home invasion was actually on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when her killer began his attack.
Police confirmed US Weekly in a statement Sunday, January 4th, Zoe Welsh A man called 911 after forcing his way into her home around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 3.
Police said Wales was speaking to a 911 operator but did not provide an age. Ryan Camacho He allegedly began attacking her. Police obtained audio of the brutal incident from a phone call from Wales.
Police arrived at the teacher’s home and found Wales with “life-threatening injuries.” Emergency crews treated Wales in an ambulance and she was taken to the nearest hospital, the statement said. “Despite resuscitation efforts, Ms. Welsh succumbed to her injuries.”
Police have not yet described the circumstances of Wales’ injuries in the attack, and the official cause of death is still pending.
As part of their initial response, police began canvassing communities in Wales and allegedly spotted Camacho, 36, and stopped him for questioning. Over time, detectives did charge Camacho with felony murder and burglary.
It was unclear whether Camacho and Wales knew each other.
“My heart breaks for this mother, friend and mentor to many in our community, and the unimaginable trauma her family must endure,” the Raleigh police chief said. Rich Boyce in a police statement. “We extend our deepest sympathies to Ms. Welsh’s family during this extremely difficult time. Whenever there is a loss of life in our community, we are all affected. As a department, we are saddened by this loss. The suspect’s arrest sends a strong message that crime will not be tolerated in the City of Raleigh.”
Boyce added: “I am deeply grateful for the dedication and professionalism of the responding officers whose quick and diligent actions resulted in the swift arrest of the suspect in this case.”
According to her LinkedIn information, Wales is a teacher at Ravenscroft School, a private institution for students in kindergarten through high school. She taught science there for nearly twenty years.

Camacho is being held without bail. He will appear in court on Monday, January 5. He may then be asked to enter a plea.
North Carolina Department of Corrections records show Camacho was released from prison in July after more than five years in prison for a shooting.
WTVD Talk to Neighbors They said they didn’t know Camacho and were shocked to hear about the crime that occurred just a few doors down.
“It’s devastating for people who live in this area, it’s crazy, it’s kind of shocking,” said Joshua Carpenterone of Wales’ neighbours. “To hear these things happening so close to me, I literally live down the street, I really don’t know what I can handle.”
