In other words, it’s been another year of the Philadelphia Mummers Parade.

Nearly a year after the Philadelphia Eagles defeated 30-year-old Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, Eagles fans are rubbing salt in the wound dramatic scene during the city’s annual New Year’s Day parade. It’s only fitting that the city’s most famous fictional athlete, Rocky, would be the one to deliver the decisive blow.

The Philadelphia Mummers Parade has been held since 1901 and is the longest running civilian parade in the United States. It features participants wearing elaborate costumes and performing skits or routines for amused onlookers.

The Kermit Mask refers to a meme popularized by fans based on Mahomes’ voice sounding like the Muppets’ voice. The meme has sprouted before in less tolerant environments, like Patrick’s Wife in 2025, Brittany Mahomesshared a photo After the Chiefs beat the Bills in the AFC Championship Game, Buffalo’s Kermit the Frog doll was wearing Patrick’s jersey and hanging from a pole.

“Do we remember this buffalo? So disgusting,” she wrote alongside the photo on Instagram. “So when you go home tonight, I pray that we become better people.”

The year before last, Las Vegas Raiders safety Trey TaylorIn the video, he holds a Kermit doll and imitates Patrick’s voice as he says, “I’m a bitch.”

Patrick dismissed the video at the time, telling reporters he didn’t need to use it as motivation.

“Things like this happen. If they are dealt with, they will be dealt with,” he said. “Everybody lets me play, I mean they know how I am. They don’t have to send me anything to keep me motivated.”

All the more reason for Eagles fans to show up to the 2026 parade with some fighting spirit. Philadelphia is 11-5, the NFC East champion and will enter the playoffs with a real chance to defend the title.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs shockingly exited the playoffs with a 6-10 record. Mahomes suffered ACL injury ends season Dec. 14 and hopes to return at the start of the 2026 season.

“Don’t know why this happened,” Mahomes wrote via X on the day of the injury. “Honestly, (it’s) painful. But all we can do now is (trust) God and attack over and over again every day. Thank you to Chiefs Kingdom for always supporting me and everyone who’s reached out and prayed. I (will) come back stronger than ever.”

Coach Andy Reid, 67, told the media the next day that Mahomes had undergone surgery and was beginning to recover.

“He’ll attack it just like he does everything else,” he said. “There’s some pretty good quarterbacks who’ve had the same injury and they’ve come back and done really well. He’s going to get after it, and he’s got good people here to help him rehab. He’s going to be on top of it all.”
